Before departure Trump defended the renovated ballroom, saying, "We have a ballroom that's under budget. I've doubled the size of it because we obviously need that." When a reporter pressed him on cost he snapped, "I doubled the size of it, you dumb person. You are not a smart person." The project’s price has shifted in reports from an initial $200 million to figures as high as $400 million; Trump has said wealthy donors would fund it.

On Iran and the Economy

Asked whether Americans’ finances motivate his Iran efforts, Trump replied, "I don't think about Americans' financial situation. I don't think about anybody. I think about one thing: we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon," adding that a post-conflict economic "golden age" will follow. Social media users reacted sharply to his remarks.
