How Invictus began

After attending the 2013 Warrior Games, which showcased sport’s power for wounded service members, Harry — who served in the British Army for a decade, including two tours in Afghanistan — pushed to create an international event. The first Invictus Games launched in London in 2014 and has since travelled to Orlando, Toronto, Sydney, The Hague (delayed in 2020), Düsseldorf and Vancouver-Whistler.

Growing a lifesaving community

Harry says Invictus both changes and, in some cases, preserves lives: participants have told him the event made a profound difference in their recovery. He plans to keep expanding the Games — possibly lengthening the week — and will mark the one-year countdown to Birmingham 2027, which expects about 550 competitors from roughly 25 countries.
